It’s Award Season at WEG

With the Oscars on Sunday, it’s worth reviewing the impressive accolades earned by Webber Energy Group members in the past couple of weeks.

The Central Texas Section of ASME named Jared Garrison Engineer of the Year.  The award is based on three criteria: 1) Participation and contribution of time and effort in support of the Central Texas Section of ASME; 2) achievements that exceed that which is expected of a mechanical engineer in his position; and 3) a history of continuing success in his field.  Garrison exemplifies his qualities through his research and outreach initiatives with the Webber Energy Group.  He received the award at the annual Texas Society for Professional Engineers (TSPE) Engineers’ Week Banquet last week.

The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) honored Charlie Upshaw with a Graduate Student Grant-In-Aid Award.  Selection is based on outstanding academic performance, significance of research plan, advisor recommendation, and potential involvement with ASHRAE.  His research, “Design, modeling, and experimental testing of and integrated thermal energy and rainwater storage (IthERSt) for residential houses” garnered high praise and continuing interest from the committee.

The Department of Human Resources at the University of Texas at Austin honored Communications Coordinator Coleman Tharpe as one of only ten finalists for the President’s Student Employee of the Year Award.  Qualifications include reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism, and uniqueness of contribution to the University.  Tharpe is part of the efficient multi-media team to communicate and promote Webber Energy Group research to the world.
