With possible carbon emissions regulations in the near future, carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) can allow for the continued use of fossil fuels for electricity generation by reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The goal of this research is to investigate the potential for flexible CO2 capture operation to improve the prospects for widespread implementation of CCS systems. This research studies the feasibility and effects of installing flexible CCS systems within the framework of Texas’ dynamic electric grid. I hope to determine the economic, performance, and environmental effects of varying CO2 capture efficiency, with the expectation that this research could lead to a more economical and environmental solution for reducing carbon emissions.
