Dr. Bruk Berhanu

Graduate Research Assistant

Bruk was born in Nashville, TN and grew up in the Cleveland, OH suburb of Solon. He received his BS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, with a focus in water resources engineering. He began his studies at the University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 2013 and joined the Webber Energy Group in the fall of 2015.

Bruk is currently completing a dual-master’s degree program in environmental and water resources engineering and public affairs. His research interests include evaluation of water efficiency and reuse technologies in buildings as demand-side approaches to water management. Bruk is currently an intern in the systems planning division of the Austin Water Utility, where he is part of a project to develop forecasting models of water demand for commercial and residential customers. He hopes to use his experience to understand the relationship between water and energy use in commercial buildings and analyze water-neutral development policies in municipalities. In particular, Bruk hopes to identify and evaluate opportunities for off-site water and energy demand reduction from adoption of efficiency and reuse technologies.
