Research Topic: System Modeling for Energy Efficient Ship Technologies

Transporting goods is one of the most critical requirements of society in providing its population with food and materials necessary to survive. This sector is also almost entirely reliant on one of the most highly scrutinized non-renewable energy sources in the world, petroleum. With over 90% of the world's freight transported by ship, modernization of these systems is required to ensure the people's well being and economic sustainment. This research focuses on system modeling to assess the potential benefits of numerous energy harvesting and conservation technologies for a large ship, with a current emphasis on the integration of a large-scale electrical energy storage system.
