Research Topics: the nexus of energy and water, transportation, energy in Texas
Carey studies energy systems and how they interact with other social and environmental systems. Much of his work has focused on the nexus between energy and water for projecting water demand for (1) electricity generation and (2) alternative automobile fuels. As part of his water studies, Carey is co-authoring a chapter for the Texas State Energy Conservation Office on the role of water in Texas' energy future as well as writing a report for the Texas Water Development Board for water planning for electricity production. Additional work involves collaborating with Melissa Lott on an interactive online tool to help policymakers understand the tradeoffs among different electricity generation sources.
