Job Description: Pecan Street Project Inc. seeks a candidate with strong quantitative and analytical skills for the position of Technology Director. While experience in clean energy and smart grid technologies is valued, the preferred background for a candidate consists of postgraduate degrees and/or professional experience in disciplines including economics (focused on quantitative analysis), math, computer science or engineering.
The Technology Director will be responsible for the testing, measurement and evaluation of clean energy and smart grid technologies and systems. The director’s primary focus initially will be on the technologies being considered and deployed at Pecan Street’s demonstration project at Mueller.

Job Description: Research and Engineering has immediate openings for postdoctoral fellows in its Corporate Strategic Research laboratory located in Annandale, NJ. Candidates are sought to fill key positions in the Algae Biofuels Research and Development Program, which is part of ExxonMobil’s strategic alliance with Synthetic Genomics, Inc. This program is a new long term investment focused on biofuel production from photosynthetic algae. If successful, these next generation biofuels could augment the world’s transportation fuel supply and assist in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the decades to come.
Microbial and Physiological Ecology (one position): This individual will be part of a team responsible for assessing the growth and physiology of selected microalgal strains under various culture conditions in order to maximize biofuel formation. In addition, interactions of the culture microbiota including algae, protozoan predators, and other microorganisms will be investigated.
A PhD is required in microbial ecology, microbial physiology, microbiology, phycology or a related field. Experience with microbial physiology, physiological ecology, photosynthesis, algal nutrition, and bioinformatics is highly desired, as is familiarity with state-of-the-art systems biology techniques such as transcriptomics and metagenomics.
Microbial Molecular Biology (one position): This individual will be part of a team carrying out experiments related to the development and analysis of microalgal strains, including efforts to improve the photosynthetic performance of the strains.
A PhD is required in genetics, cellular biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biophysics or a related field. Experience with microbial physiology, photosynthesis, cellular metabolism, and bioinformatics is highly desired, as is familiarity with state-of-the-art molecular and systems biology techniques such as transcriptomics and metagenomics.
Bioreactor design engineering (one position): This individual will be part of a team working on the design, operation, and testing of reactor systems to grow and harvest algae. Responsibilities will include implementing, testing, and modifying prototype photo bioreactors, algae harvesting equipment, and input/output systems. This individual will also interact with design teams and contractors.
A PhD in chemical or mechanical engineering or related field is required. Requirements include reactor engineering expertise, bioreactor design experience, as well as experience in experimental design.

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Director of Technical Operations, the VP has shared profit and loss responsibility for building, coordinating and operating MRI's Energy Research and Development Business Area and serving as the interface in this area between Business Development and Technical Operations. This position has management responsibility and serves as mentor to staff in business development, planning and implementation while working with MRI's management team to recommend and develop long-term investments and strategies for business expansion in energy research.
Credentials Sought:
* M.S. or Ph.D. in a science, engineering or related field preferred
* 15 or more years of experience in successful leading and directing
multi-disciplinary teams of professional scientists and engineers
* Demonstrated experience in directing and growing an R&D operation
involved in work across organizational lines that encompass the
sciences and engineering is required
* Must be recognized as a technical expert in energy research and
development as evidenced by publications, professional organization
affiliations/involvement, special distinctions, history of funding
support
* Background should include success in identifying and quantifying
business development opportunities with subsequent conversion to
funding R&D programs
